ASTAO is NOT a rescue! However, we do strive to provide as much information as possible to Pit Bull owners. Here you will find both Rescue and Training referrals that are Pit Bull friendly.
There are many reasons owners have to release dogs to a rescue or shelter. If training is not the answer to your problem, ASTAO also provides Pit Bull friendly rescue and shelter referrals. ALL dogs that enter into a rescue program, and adopted out from a reputable rescue program, should be spay or neutered, and of sound mind. Below you will find rescues and shelters that have been recommended to ASTAO. If you do not find a shelter in your area, please visit Pit Bull Rescue Central at: www.pbrc.net. If you would like to refer a rescue or shelter, please contact: rescue@astao.org.
Many times, owners search for a rescue or release dogs to a shelter because the sweet, playful puppy they had turns into a rambunctious, unruly dog. However, a new home is not the answer here! If there are problems you are experiencing, many times a trainer can give you the results you are looking for and restore control in the home environment. Please search below to find a trainer in your area. If you do not find a trainer in your area below, or if you would like to refer a great, Pit Bull friendly trainer, please contact: training@astao.org.

Comment from trainer: "I believe you need to ‘listen’ to the dog and have a true understanding of how a dogs mind works. Imagine a world where you need to work and are completely dependent on someone for everything you need but they speak a foreign language that you cannot understand!. . . it is quite simple to get in their minds and speak to them in their language so they can work to please you.” |
