Featured Rescue

The Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation

The IGRF is a non-profit organization with volunteers nationwide dedicated to re-homing Italian Greyhounds who have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive/neglectful homes, or surrendered to animal rescues. Our rescue dogs are fostered in loving homes where their health and temperament are evaluated (and improved when possible) while they await adoption. Adoption applicants are screened thoroughly to ensure a good match for each dog as well as the adoptive family.

Safely traveling with your pets

Mutt Magic Training Services

While a shoppng cart may work to transport your dog around the pet store or a busy park (?!), it is not likely the best mode of transportation if you want your dog to accompany you on the family vacation. While traveling with your pets, of any species or size, it is important to have them safely restrained inside of your vehicle. Riding free inside a vehicle can result in injuries to you and your pet in the event of an accident, not to mention it can potentially cause an accident. Additionally, restraint is also essential if your animals ride in the back of a pick-up truck.

Crates are an easy option for most SUV owners, and a must for dogs that ride in the back of a pick-up truck. Crates are also nice for quick runs into the store- you can leave the windows open without having to worry about your dog jumping out! Another option for SUV's that doesn't require loading and unloading crates is a divider panel. Although not as easy to contain your dog when opening the hatch, a divider can keep your dog safely in the back of the vehicle, preventing injuries and accidents.

If you drive a car, there are safe travel options as well. Some of you remember the days when I traveled in a Toyota Corolla with a full size crate in the back seat. I prefer not to! There are car barrier devices that keep your dog in the back seat. Additionally, special dog harnesses and seat belts are a reasonable option for any vehicle.

Hopefully this gives some helpful tips for your summer travel season! Travel safe, and have fun!
